FortyEight is foundational to our love story. In the early days of our relationship we spent many days sitting on the patio, sipping wine and snacking on crab cakes. Some of our fondest memories and deepest conversations have happened here.
We cannot wait to share this special place with you!
This optional event will begin at 4:00 PM and wrap up by 6:00 PM.
Please keep in mind that dinner will not be served during the event but there are many delicious options just walking distance away. Check out the Directory link below to explore the various shops and restaurants.

Attire: Casual! Come dressed in whatever makes you most comfortable, i.e., shorts, jeans, flip flops, etc.
Transportation: FortyEight is located in Freshfields Village, beyond the island gate. Important to note that transportation services will not be provided to-and-from Welcome Drinks.
For those of you opting not to rent a car for the weekend, the Sanctuary’s shuttle service will provide transportation for a fee (see Travel & Stay section for contact details).
For anyone looking for a bit of fun and beautiful scenery, FortyEight is a leisurely 30+ minute bike ride from all accommodations (see Travel & Stay section for rental information).
Kids: Kids are more than welcome to join the celebrations on Friday! The venue is directly adjacent to a large central lawn where they can run and play.
Ceremony & Reception
We fell in love on Kiawah and with Kiawah during our long stay in 2020. This island is the heart of our relationship and we wanted to pick a venue that best represented that.
While Kiawah River is technically not on Kiawah Island, it offers beautiful southern landscapes with massive oak trees. The spanish moss is breathtaking and perfectly encapsulates the romantic and charming location where we are choosing to share our vows.
We hope you love it just as much as we do!
The ceremony will begin promptly at 4:00 PM.
Transportation to-and-from Kiawah River will be provided. For more details on pick-up & drop-off times and locations, please see below.

Attire: Cocktail / Semi-Formal. For the gentleman, ties are optional.
Please note, October on Kiawah can be warm during the day but a bit chilly at night. The venue will mostly be tented but please feel free to bring a light shawl with you for the evening just in case. Additionally, the venue sits on a large piece of land, so ladies (and any gents who fancy a heel), please be sure to wear shoes that allow you to roam comfortably on the grass.
Transportation: Transportation has been scheduled to bring you to-and-from Kiawah River.
Departure buses will arrive at the Sanctuary Hotel on Kiawah Island starting at 3:00 PM and will leave for the venue no later than 3:30 PM.
Return buses will begin drop-off services to the Sanctuary Hotel starting at 9:00 PM and will continue until 10:15 PM.
Kids: While we love your kids, we kindly ask that you do not bring them along for this portion of the weekend.
